Kite surfing is safe and easy to learn and after a basic course you are ready to go out on your own. This course is aimed at getting you to an independent level to practice safely alone.

DAY 1:

  • Theory of wind and safety awareness
  • Basic flying with a 2 line kite
  • Set-up of inflatable 4 line kite

DAY 2:

  • Body-dragging, downwind, crosswind & upwind to recover the board
  • Walking while piloting the kite with one hand
  • Board-start theory (beach)
  • Board-start (water)

DAY 3:

  • Continue to practice the water start  but now practicing to ride the board & keeping the power
  • Know the right of way rules

You have now completed your IKO level 1 & 2 course

Kite Junkies only use IKO & BKSA Instructors and are teaching courses according to IKO & BKSA standards. Our courses are open to anyone from the age of 12 and above. Certification fees & insurance are included with all courses. (Guardians signature required for students under the age of 18 years.)

All courses are conducted in our designated training area where the lagoon is knee to chest deep. After your course and as you progress you can blast out and ride around the intermediate/advanced area.

Kiteboarding safe and easy!

With the IKO & BKSA teaching method, you learn according to your skill level, knowledge and rhythm. The courses are specially taught to give you the best results in the shortest time. Our professional & qualified Instructors conduct courses in various languages. Have confidence in our instructors; they know how to evaluate your potential and help you to progress at your own pace without losing any time.

At the end of your IKO course you will receive your IKO Kiteboarder certification card, attesting your skill level.

Safety!

All the staff at Kite Junkies are very safety conscious. We train according to strict standards & you will have a qualified instructor with you at all times. All our kites are equipped with safety systems where you can release yourself from the power immediately.  As a student you will always be wearing a helmet and flotation vest for increased safety.

Essentials for the lessons

All the equipment is provided in the lessons including wet suits if needed. The only items that we do not provide are water shoes. If you have them bring them with you if not we sell them in the shop.

Additional items recommended for lessons are sunglasses with a floatable band, high factor sunscreen, rash vest or T-shirt & shorts & drinking water. We do have a refrigerator for guests to store your drinks etc.

Private Lessons - Advanced Trick Studies or Refreshers.

This is where we tailor suit the lesson to your needs. Maybe it’s been six months since you did your beginners course and you want a refresher for that confidence boost. Maybe you want to work on a basic jump, back roll or improve your toe-side, it’s up to you. 

Beginner Course
IKO Level I & II is a complete beginner’s course and is aimed at getting you to an independent level to practice safely alone.

IKO Kiteboarder Level I 

  • Theory about the wind & safety
  • Basic flying with a 2 line kite
  • Set-up of inflatable 4 line kite
  • Launching & Landing
  • Water re-launch
  • Downwind body-dragging
  • Self-rescue & deep water pack down

This course is 6 hours if done in a group (max 4 persons) and is normally done over 2 days.

IKO Kiteboarder Level II

  • Crosswind body dragging
  • Up-wind body dragging to recover the board
  • Walking while Piloting the kite with one hand
  • Water start theory
  • Board start in the water
  • Knowing the right of way rules

This course is 6 hours if done in a group (max 4 persons) and is normally done over 2 days.

IKO Kiteboarder Level III – Independent

  • Riding in both directions
  • Edging using heal & toe side of the board to change the course. Stop by edging
  • Riding upwind consistently
  • Switch direction
  • Perform a small jump & land it

The skills within the IKO level III are more technical than in the levels of I & II. It is very difficult to put an exact time frame on completing all the skills in Level III. For this reason we generally concentrate on specific requested skills within this level.

This course is 6 hours if done in a group (max 4 persons) and is normally done over 2 days.

Note: Courses carried out as private (1:1 basis) are based on half the hours normally done in a group (e.g. 6 hours group becomes 3 hrs).
